DOCUMENTATION

Readme File
-----------
The Readme file is Readme.txt (this file). This file may
be found in the Imaging folder on the CD containing the
Imaging for Windows software. During installation, it is
copied to the folder where the software is installed. Read
this file carefully before attempting to install the Imaging
for Windows software.

Getting Started Guide
---------------------
After installation, the Getting Started Guide, GSTRTGD.PDF,
is located in the Documentation folder where you installed
Imaging for Windows. To view and print the Getting Started
Guide, download Adobe's Acrobat Reader (version 5.0 or later)
from www.adobe.com.

Online Help

From the main application window, selecting the help menu or
pressing F1 displays the help contents. All the other dialog
windows in the Imaging application have context-sensitive
help. Click on the question mark (?) icon on the right side
of the dialog's title bar, then click on any field in the
dialog for help.

Installing/Uninstalling the Software
=====================================
Imaging for Windows may be installed on Windows 98SE,
Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 6a, Windows 2000 or
Windows XP Service Pack 1. You must be a local
administrator to install the software.

To install Imaging for Windows on a system where another
version of Imaging for Windows resides, you should uninstall
the other version before installing this version of Imaging for
Windows. Not uninstalling other versions may cause unexpected
results to occur in Imaging.

For additional information, refer to the Getting Started Guide,
GSTRTGD.PDF, located in the CD's root folder. To view and
print the Getting Started Guide, you must have Adobe's Acrobat
Reader. You may download this from www.adobe.com.

Installation Notes
------------------
Imaging for Windows 2.8 installs in its own directory.

Silent mode installs exist for both the base Imaging for
Windows and Imaging 1.x Server Access components. If
setup.exe is invoked with the "-s" switch, the install will
execute without prompting the user. Before running the 1.x
Server Access silent install, modify setup.iss with the proper
Server Address for your 1.x Server. The Server Address is the
machine's IP Address and port number.

WMS Imaging software is not supplied with Imaging for Windows.
However, Imaging for Windows may access WMS Imaging data if
WMS Client Components are installed on the system. Imaging
for Windows 2.8 works with WMS Client Components version 6.0
or later.

To retain the Standard OCR training file for future usage, copy
or rename the standard training file before uninstalling an
Imaging release. After installing Imaging for Windows, copy
the previously saved standard training file into the Imaging
directory. Changes made to custom training files are retained.

User-defined defaults for Imaging for Windows are lost when
installing new versions of Imaging for Windows. If the user
has defined rubber stamps, for example, they are lost and must
be recreated in Imaging for Windows.

Upgrading a Windows 98 system with Imaging for Windows installed
to Windows 2000, requires a re-installation of Imaging for
Windows. Some components may appear to operate, but some of
the Imaging for Windows functionality is inaccessible.

The Imaging 1.x Server Access Installation is only required
once per system. On a Windows NT, 2000, or XP system, the
installation must be executed by a person with Administrator
rights. As a result, all users on a system will access the
same 1.x server(s).

Un-install Notes
----------------
On Windows NT, 2000, or XP, the uninstall procedure only clears
the Imaging preferences and settings for the user who uninstalls
Imaging for Windows. You must be a local administrator to
uninstall the software.

NOTES
=====

TIFF JPEG Support
-----------------
When saving images in the TIFF file format with JPEG compression,
it is optional to save the data following the TIFF 6.0
specification Technical Note #2. This TIFF JPEG format is part
of the preliminary TIFF 7.0 specification. TIFF JPEG 6.0
without Technical Note #2 remains the default format.

TIFF File Association on Windows XP
-----------------------------------
To enable Imaging to start and display a TIFF file when you click
on it in Windows Explorer, associate Imaging with the file type
TIFF. In Windows Explorer, go to the 'File Types' tab of the
Tools->Folder Options dialog. To link all extensions associated
with "TIF Image" files, click Advanced. When the Edit File Type
dialog appears, select Open, and click Edit. Enter the
fully qualified path name for Imaging.exe followed by "%1".
Please notice that the quotes should be included. So, the path
should be similar to: c:\Program Files\Imaging.exe "%1".
Click OK. To associate only a particular extension with Imaging,
click Change. When the Open With dialog appears, select IMAGE
VIEWER from the list, and click OK.

Development Component Names
---------------------------
The names of the Custom Controls for Development Container
Environments (e.g. VB) changed from the previous version. The
OCX names and the SAO component names no longer contain 'Kodak',
i.e. "Kodak Image Admin Control". In Visual Basic these names
are displayed in the Projects->Components...' and
'Projects->References...' dialogs for adding controls and
references into your Visual Basic project. The new descriptive
names are the following:
   Image Admin Control
   Image Scan Control
   Image Thumbnail Control
   Image Edit Control
   Image Annotation Control
   Image OCR Control
   Image Server Access Object
